Home Health Plan When to Call Us
Dependent Eligibility

When certain circumstances change, your child may no longer be eligible for coverage as your dependent. However, he or she may be eligible to continue health insurance coverage as an individual. You need to call us within 60 days of his or her ineligibility to discuss the available options.

If any of the following statements are true and you don’t notify us within 60 days, your child’s insurance coverage may end with no option for continuation.
  • My child will be entering the military.
  • My child is married or will be getting married.
  • My child (age 19 or older)
    • Is no longer a full-time student.
    • Is not a full-time student and earns more than the monthly income limit. (Please contact Eligibility Services at 800-279-4000 ext. 8540 for the current income limit.)

New dependent eligibility requirements take effect upon the renewal of your group insurance plan
In 2010, upon the renewal of your WEA Trust health and/or dental plan, the following dependent eligibility requirements become effective:

Under the new federal health care reform law, your married or unmarried adult child is eligible for coverage under your WEA Trust health plan until the end of the month in which he or she turns age 26.

Under the Wisconsin mandate, your adult child is eligible for coverage under your WEA Trust health and/or dental plan if he or she is:

  • 27 years of age or younger.
  • Not married.
  • Not eligible for health insurance under an employer-sponsored plan with a required contribution that is less than your cost to cover your child under your Trust plan.
In addition, children older than age 27 may still be covered under your Trust health plan if they were attending school as a full-time student and were called to active military duty when they were under the age of 27.

Again, you must notify us within 60 days if your dependent no longer meets the eligibility requirements described above.

For more information on dependent eligibility, call the Trust at (800) 279-4000 and ask to speak with an eligibility services representative.
